Where are you from?
I was born in Billinge and grew up in Wigan but have also lived in Leeds for 4yrs where I attended my 1st degree at Leeds university.
Where did you study/ work previously?
I completed my Occupational Therapy degree at Salford University.
Where did you work previously?
Prior to working as an OT with MTS, I worked as a senior integrated therapy assistant (OT/Physio) at Lancashire teaching hospitals NHS on the Stroke Rehabilitation and Neuro ward. I also previously worked as a integrated rehab assistant at Salford Royal on the Major Trauma ward.
What is a typical day at MTS like for you?
Working as an OT at MTS is so varied, there is no typical day. My role has taken me to supporting clients with housing adaptations, assessing activities such as snowboarding as well as utilising a seaside arcade as an environment to assess a client’s functional skills and lower limb prosthetic use.
What’s the best thing about your role?
Being able to support clients through their rehab journey as part of the MTS team. Working as an OT gives the best job satisfaction when you can support someone get their life back on track.
What do you consider is your biggest achievement within your role?
Working with a client to identify and utilise equipment to support their goal of attending an outdoor concert. Prior to OT input the client had been unable to leave their bed for several years, but following an integrated therapeutic intervention the client was able to engage in their valued activity as well as re engage in ADLS both at home and in the community.
